The last Christmas my mom was alive, she gave me and each of my five siblings a big photo album (mine was a beautiful red). Inside were pictures from growing up in Dallas as one of six children, one of Mom holding me as a baby, group photos of us at birthday parties, Easter, and a myriad of other special occasions like my wedding and the birth of our babies. What a gift! We had no idea that just a few months later Mom would be diagnosed with inoperable, terminal cancer. I still have that photo album with the personal note she wrote me on the inside cover, about what a joy I was as a daughter and how she’d loved being my mom. When I look through the album, scores of memories come flooding in; how grateful I am for the gift of my mom and the gifts she gave me growing up–especially this one.
